Originally had this in 2011 and sold it to upgrade to the CD-T100. Bad move. Although the CD-T100 looks the part, it doesn't have the sheer sonic abilities of the CD-T80. The CD-T100 was warm and flat compared. I instantly got that feeling of regret.
So, I stuck with the CD-T100 until I'd saved enough money to go for the five star rated Roksan Caspian M2. What a difference. Now that is a machine but I still missed the CD-T80 so bought another one!
Even at nearly 20 years old, the CD-T80 ab-so-lutely shines. The music just opens out and is not restrained in any way. Its ability to deliver sound in three dimensions is superb. Highly detailed and precise but never over analytical or tiresome to listen to, you enjoy the music, not the machine.
And yes, I still have it and no I'm not going to sell it. Ever! Go find your own. :)

Don't underestimate this CD player. It might not have the looks or styling of it's bigger brothers but that doesn't mean that it won't perform any less.
I blind tested both the CD-T80 and the CD-T100 at home and was surprised to find that I actually preferred the CD-T80. OK, so it doesn't have the top loading illuminated disc cover, the visible tubes, dual outputs or a tube driven headphone socket but that's why it doesn't cost as much and it can certainly give the CD-T100 a good run for it's money.
May be another sign of how good this player is, is it's resale availability. How many times for instance have you seen one of these for sale on eBay? I've seen two in a year. I've seen three CD-T300's listed in the last 3 months and Shanling only ever made 300 of them!

"Smooth tube CD player"

The CD-T80 is built like an ATM. Weighing in at 10Kg with flush metal buttons and reinforced power and play buttons this is one seriously tough machine. Even the remote is metal and weighs 250g and it's battery panel is screwed on at the bottom.
The output stage runs through two vacuum tubes inside which makes a huge difference compared regular digital player. It makes the playback much smoother and not as tiring to listen to over long periods. The idea is to take the dryness or harshness out of the music and lean more towards the vinyl sound that so many people strive to accomplish in a CD player. The bass weight is strong, the midrange is fuller and vocals are naturally warm but also crystal clear. It also has the added advantage of an up-sampling mode to 24bit/96KHz. Engaging this tightens the bass and adds a little more sparkle to the top end.
The display is dot matrix blue but is fairly basic. I would have liked to see an eject button on the remote and maybe the ability to toggle the track/album length and times on the display but then again I guess the price you pay is for the engineering and technology not for gadgets and gizmo's.
That said, this is a great player and well worth the money.
