When one hears this mid-sized amp for the first time one can't fend of the impression - "BIG Boy".
Before I had this 447 I used a 227 for my PC and casual listening. While latter sounded beyond sweet it lacked some muscle in the deeper regions.
Once the 447 was "installed" I was in awe of the nice, full sound it produced. The lacking power of the 227 was quickly forgotten as the 447 thundered through some of my favorite material. In Pioneer fashion the amp seems top and bottom heavy with a slight neglect of the mids. But contrary to some of the later Denon's this "tuning" is pulled of gently via a rather warm and fat tone which soothes the ears.
This way nearly anything one plays through this Pioneer does sound full & impressive.
Compared to the
A-227 - it may appear less delicate and more rough
A-676 - it appears more boomy with a hair less real grunt down below
Innards
a hefty transformer and two 10000µF caps are one of the reasons why this one has a big "aura"
Looks / Handling
Sexy design - the font & golden accents rock.
Front is nice and the knobs are ok. The volume knob is rather bad (feels cheap) and the integration of the balance control sucks
