3 out of 5 "Mission 761i Loudspeakers...good used speaker"
In spite of their age, the 761i's are still fairly good speakers. Very British in tonality, erring only on the side of being smooth and quite listenable.

Compared to my ProAc Tablettes, sure the Missions get beat...they're more laid back, with less punchy bass and high frequency detail. You would expect this in 2 different price categories. However, the 761i's compete with the blue bloods, and they image quite well, broadcasting a nice holographic image, especially when listening to vinyl. You face the Missions almost straight forward with a few degrees of tilt.

The 761i will not at all disappoint. If you get them used at a good price (mine cost just $60, but they're worth up to $100), they're a steal. Put them on 28"-30" METAL speaker stands (never EVER use wood or MDF for stands; you'll destroy the sound of these speakers, especially in the bass). If possible, fill the stands with sand.

Good for jazz, Classical, voice and general music. For rock & roll, skootch the bass control up a notch or two...or better yet, add a subwoofer (buy an 8" subwoofer online for $100), and these speakers become noticeably better...and, voila! you have a very, VERY nice stereo setup on the cheap. You'll be amazed.
