I've owned these speakers for more than 2 years. A rating of a speaker should always be made in reference to its price. Of course it would not be competitive to much more expensive speakers, but NS-555 is right for its appearance and sound.
Good: Nice piano black finish with round shape, could not find equivalent in the range. Bi-wiring capability. Mid-range (i.e. for voice is smooth and clear). Sound great for good digital sources and amplifier. Quite solid construction.
Bad: Tweeter is a bit weak and need equalization to get it right. Low bass lacks punch. Yamaha quotes frequency response 45Hz-20kHz but the +-3dB should be around 60Hz-18kHz or so.
However, note that this speakers were designed to be in a home theatre setup. When combined with a good sub set at 50Hz cut-off and surround speakers, it would give you the sound of speakers that cost much much more.
