5 out of 5 "Tannoy DC3000 (update :))"
13 years have passed since my last comment on these speakers, yes I still have them :).
The rest of my system has changed however. The Audiolab 8000C/P combo has been upgraded to the 8000Q and 2 x 8000M's. My phono amp from a Project ?, to a MF M1 V1nyl.
The speakers just love the extra control the mono-blocks seem to have over them, the bass is now rib breaking and the slightly strident HF is no more.
I have also added a pair of TDL Studio 1's to my man cave, the Tannoy's grace the living room, both are great speakers, the TDL's more satisfying in the smaller room at low levels with their TL bass, but it's the Tannoy's they can use to make my coffin. Can't remember how old they are now, but talk about value for my money. I wonder what they'd sound like quad amped ;).

5 out of 5 "An old marriage"
I bought them in the 90s 2nd hand for, for me, a lot of money.
I already compared them to newer, but only slightly better, tannoys in 2022 and still am not in the need to buy something else.
I hope our marriage will last another decade, because there is no other speaker in sight.

5 out of 5 "Tannoy DC3000"
I have just spent several weekends auditioning new speakers at around the 1500 quid mark to replace my faithful old Dc3000s and guess what, for the sort of music I listen to, nothing yet has given the old Tannoys much competition.
Yes I have listened to speakers with clearer treble, deeper or tighter bass, but nothing I have heard (and I have asked to listen to speakers that are well run in) has the same....elan, joy de vire, emotion.
Fed by an Audiolab 8000P and biwired with LK20 speaker cable these brutes do LOUD in a way few other speakers can manage, however.
They do need plenty of space around them at least a metre either side and to the rears, especially the rears, plonk them to close to a wall and the deep bass simply overwhelms, great for dub reggae though.
The black cabinets are high quality with a cavity in the bottom third for filling with say depleted uranium, this is a worthwhile thing to do, just tightens the bass even further and improves imaging.
For the best imaging I have found they work best when turned in so the tweeters aim crosses just in front of your nose, doing this seems to extend the "sweet spot" by a seat either side.
I can thoroughly recommend these beasties, quite why Tannoy don't resurrect them is beyond me.
