5 out of 5 "Last speakers Marantz made in America and last designed by Ed May"
These are excellent speakers. Marantz hired legendary speaker designer, Ed May, from JBL and built a studio to his specifications, including a specialized anechoic chamber for fine-tuning his designs. Ed May is known as one of the most influential speaker designers at JBL, and is credited for the design of the JBL 100 and 4310 and 4311 among many others. The 1230 speakers are very rare because Ed May died only 1 year into their production. They retailed for about $600/pair in 1982.
