Having sold my much loved Epos ELS3 speakers, I purchased a pair of ELS8's as a natural upgrade. Sound out of the box was harsh with very little seperation between mid and high frequencies, all sort of muddled together. This left me thinking "What have I done !". Having percivered and having played them for approx 25 hours, they are a completely different animal. Bass, mid and high's are clearly defined and crystal clear. A complete change had ensued. Epos advertise these as having a 150mm Bass/Mid driver when in fact it is only 130mm. Apparently this is down to the way Epos measure them !! Anyway that aside, these speakers are getting better and better all the time and now produce a sound worthy of the Epos name. Apart from having a bigger sound stage and slightly better Bass response than the 3's, they produce a very similar quality of sound reproduction, very high quality. The Maple vinyl finish is quite nice, but you can't beat genuine veneer for that feel of quality, but at this price, not really an issue. All in all, a very competant speaker and with careful "running in" is capable of producing stunning sound.
